The identity crisis of Quark Inc., creator of the former leader in layout programs QuarkXPress, seems to go deeper than anticipated. Hit by the success of Adobes InDesign when they thought they were invincible and their own inability to produce something worthy of competition has dropped Quark into agony – and into an ongoing search for a new identity.
Having risen lime green out of the ashes last september, they were quickly criticized for having a logo to similar to many other ones. Now, half a year later, they present yet another one. The lime green stays – and, oh boy, they did not forget to use bevels and drop shadows.
Admittedly, I am not really sure if it is that much better to look like Sony Ericsson than to look like the Scottish Arts Council …
Yeah, it's a shame that they just keep redoing the logo in the style du-jour.
The "orb" is probably going to be dead in the water in a few months and they'll be left with a logo that looks like the logos everyone was doing for a few months in late 2005 and early 2006.
Quark doesn't stand much of a chance these days.

Oh well they're going to wither into obscurity anyway. I'm sure they'll develop a niche like PageMaker has but I'm glad to see them go. Unless they come out with something that's as smooth as InDesign and solid as a rock no one will care.
